Overview

Ribosomal protein S27 pseudogene 7 (RPS27P7) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S27 gene (RPS27). Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are generally nonfunctional; they do not produce functional proteins and are typically not involved in canonical biological pathways or disease mechanisms[2][5]. RPS27P7 is annotated in genomic databases as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional ribosomal protein. Unlike the functional RPS27 gene, which is involved in ribosome assembly and protein synthesis, pseudogenes like RPS27P7 are generally not expressed or only transcribed at low, nonfunctional levels and have no verified biological function or involvement in disease[2][5]. No drugs are known to interact with this pseudogene, and it is not used as a biomarker or therapeutic target. Pseudogenes often arise via duplication or retrotransposition events and represent “dead” copies of genes. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles, there is no evidence that RPS27P7 is functional or clinically relevant[2][5]. Its name derives from its similarity to ribosomal protein S27 but adding "pseudogene" in the canonical name distinguishes it from the functional gene product. There is no indication this entry corresponds to an actionable protein or receptor; it is likely included in datasets due to sequence similarity but should not be considered a druggable target[2][5].
