Ribosomal protein S27 pseudogene 8 (RPS27P8) is annotated as a processed pseudogene related to the active ribosomal protein S27 gene, which encodes a component of the small (40S) ribosomal subunit. As a pseudogene, RPS27P8 does not encode a functional protein and is not known to be linked to any therapeutic mechanisms, disease roles, or drug interactions. There is little to no literature characterizing its functional relevance beyond theoretical regulatory effects sometimes attributed to pseudogenes in general. Most of the molecular and clinical functions described in published sources pertain to RPS27, not its pseudogenes[3][4][5]. On rare occasions, related pseudogenes such as RPS27AP5 have been shown to express protein variants influencing ribosome function[1], but this has not been demonstrated or described for RPS27P8.
