Ribosomal protein S27 pseudogene 9 (RPS27P9) is a processed pseudogene of the human ribosomal protein S27 gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional; they do not encode active proteins, and thus do not produce a gene product that can act as a therapeutic target, nor do they participate in molecular or cellular functions. Functional RPS27 is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, but RPS27P9 itself is not biologically active and has no known role in disease or drug interaction. Most information available relates to the parent gene, RPS27, not the pseudogene.
