Overview

RPS27A pseudogene 11 (RPS27AP11) is a non-coding, processed pseudogene homologous to ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27A). The parental RPS27A gene encodes a fusion protein that is cleaved into ubiquitin and ribosomal protein S27a, which is integral to the 40S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis, cell cycle regulation, and DNA repair[2][3][7][4][5]. Pseudogenes like RPS27AP11 are generally considered non-functional genomic elements with no protein product or biological activity under normal conditions[2][3]. While some RPS27A pseudogenes may be transcribed or have regulatory roles, no substantial evidence supports RPS27AP11 as a therapeutic target or a source of functional protein[1][2][3][7]. If the intent was to refer to the functional parental gene RPS27A, which is implicated in various cancers and is involved in ribosome assembly, cell proliferation, and stress responses as well as ubiquitin pathways, that protein (ribosomal protein S27a) may be considered a potential cancer target or biomarker; but RPS27AP11 itself does not fit the criteria for a therapeutic target[2][4][5]. In summary, RPS27AP11 is a pseudogene, not an active protein or drug target, and information about drugs, mechanisms, or disease roles pertain to RPS27A, not its pseudogene copies[2][3][4][5][7].
