Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S28 pseudogene 8 (RPS28P8) is a human processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S28 gene family. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein S28 gene (RPS28), RPS28P8 does not code for a functional protein and, as a pseudogene, lacks the ability to participate in the formation of the ribosome or mediate protein synthesis[3][5]. Pseudogenes like RPS28P8 are remnants of duplication and retrotransposition events in evolutionary history and are often transcriptionally inactive, though some pseudogenes can adopt regulatory roles in special circumstances[5][13]. There is no evidence that RPS28P8 has biological, functional, therapeutic, or disease relevance as a target, nor are there known drug interactions or biomarker applications related to this pseudogene[3][5].
