Overview

Ribosomal protein S29 pseudogene 20 is a **pseudogene** derived from the gene encoding ribosomal protein S29 (RPS29), which itself is a component of the small (40S) ribosomal subunit and participates in protein synthesis[1][3][6]. Pseudogenes such as RPS29P20 arise from genomic duplications or retrotransposition events and do not produce functional protein products[8]. There is no current evidence that RPS29P20 encodes a functional protein, plays a role in disease, is a drug target, or has established clinical significance. It should not be confused with the functional RPS29 gene, mutations of which are implicated in diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia[4][10].
