Overview

Ribosomal protein S29 pseudogene 25 (RPS29P25) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S29 (RPS29) gene. Like other pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins, it does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins—such as RPS29P25—are widespread in the genome and result from retrotransposition or duplication events, and are generally not transcribed or translated into active proteins. They are not implicated in therapeutic targeting and do not have established roles in disease, function, or serve as drug targets. RPS29P25 is one of potentially many pseudogenes of the RPS29 gene. The functional RPS29 gene encodes a structural component of the ribosome's 40S subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, but the pseudogenes are nonfunctional. These pseudogenes are of interest in studies of genome structure, pseudogene evolution, and molecular genetics, but not as therapeutic targets or biological effectors. There is no evidence for protein product, biological function, disease association, or pharmacological targeting for RPS29P25.
