Ribosomal protein S29 pseudogene 31 (RPS29P31) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein S29 gene (RPS29). Pseudogenes are non-coding DNA sequences derived from functional genes but lacking the ability to encode a functional protein due to accumulated mutations or truncation[4]. RPS29P31 does not participate in ribosome biogenesis, protein synthesis, or any known cellular function, nor is it implicated in disease or considered a drug target. Information found in biomedical databases shows that pseudogenes such as RPS29P31 exist in the human genome as nonfunctional remnants, with no evidence of protein-coding or disease association[4]. The canonical functional gene, RPS29, is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, but RPS29P31 itself should not be confused with this protein-coding gene[1][2][3][5].
