Ribosomal protein S29 pseudogene 32 (RPS29P32) is a processed pseudogene of the RPS29 gene. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic sequences derived from functional genes that have typically accumulated mutations rendering them incapable of expressing functional proteins. No evidence exists that this pseudogene encodes a protein or serves as a biological or therapeutic target. The functional gene RPS29 is a ribosomal protein coding component of the 40S ribosome with roles in protein synthesis, and its mutations—not its pseudogenes—are associated with disease such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia. RPS29P32 appears in the genome as a byproduct of the RPS29 gene duplication but lacks confirmed biological or disease relevance in the literature.
