Ribosomal protein S3 pseudogene 2 (RPS3P2) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome. While it is related in sequence to the protein-coding ribosomal protein S3 (RPS3) gene, RPS3P2 itself does not encode a protein and is not known to have any biological function or disease association. Pseudogenes like RPS3P2 are common for ribosomal protein genes and are generally considered genomically inactive, though in some cases pseudogene transcripts can have regulatory roles; no such function is currently reported for RPS3P2. RPS3P2 is classified and officially recognized as a pseudogene by nomenclature authorities. RPS3P2 appears in gene databases as a pseudogene without any functional annotation or protein product. The parental gene (RPS3) has well-documented roles in ribosome function, DNA repair, and disease, but these roles do not apply to the specific pseudogene form RPS3P2.
