Ribosomal protein S3 pseudogene 5 (RPS3P5) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 6 (chr6:99575712-99576456, hg38)[10]. As a pseudogene of the functional RPS3 gene, RPS3P5 consists of DNA sequence that resembles the parent gene encoding the 40S ribosomal protein S3 but has lost its protein-coding ability and does not produce a functional ribosomal protein. The RPS3 parent gene encodes a component of the 40S ribosome subunit involved in protein synthesis and has some extraribosomal functions in DNA repair and regulation of apoptosis[1][7][9]. In contrast, RPS3P5 is generally considered nonfunctional, does not code for a protein, and has no established molecular or clinical roles. There are no known drugs, disease associations, or mechanisms of action for this pseudogene, and it is not considered a current or potential therapeutic target[11][12].
