Ribosomal protein S3A pseudogene 1 (RPS3AP1) is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional RPS3A gene, located on human chromosome 21 (chr21:20430443-20430762, hg38). Pseudogenes arise typically via retrotransposition processes such as LINE1-mediated events, and retain sequence similarity to their parent gene but typically lack functional protein expression and biological activity. Unlike the RPS3A gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein involved in the 40S ribosomal subunit, RPS3AP1 does not encode a functional protein, is not expressed, and has no apparent molecular or disease relevance. It is commonly annotated in genetic databases for completeness but is not regarded as a therapeutic, diagnostic, or functional target.
