Overview

RPS3A pseudogene 10 is a human processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S3A gene (RPS3A). Pseudogenes result from reverse transcription and genomic integration of mRNA but lack the necessary open reading frame and regulatory features to encode a functional protein. RPS3AP10, like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, is widely dispersed in the human genome as a remnant of evolutionary genomic events, and it does not encode a functional ribosomal protein[2]. It has no known biological activity, disease association, or relevance as a therapeutic target or biomarker, distinguishing it from its parent gene RPS3A, which is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis[1][2][3]. This pseudogene should not be confused with the functional RPS3A gene, which is a structural protein in ribosomes involved in translation and has disease relevance; only the parent gene, not its pseudogenes, is therapeutically or biologically significant[1][2]. There are many ribosomal protein S3A pseudogenes in the human genome, and RPS3AP10 is one such processed pseudogene; their identification is primarily of genomic and evolutionary, not clinical or therapeutic, significance[2].
