Overview

Ribosomal protein S3a pseudogene 12 is a non-functional processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S3a gene. Pseudogenes arise through duplication and subsequent mutation or retrotransposition of their parent gene; most do not encode functional proteins and do not participate in physiological processes. RPS3AP12 does not have a protein product, is not associated with known diseases or therapeutic mechanisms, and does not interact with drugs. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, sequence fragments can resemble the original protein-coding gene but are generally considered biologically inactive. Molecular classification: Processed pseudogene (not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, channel, or transcription factor). Disease roles and biological functions: Not implicated in pathobiology or normal cell function as of current knowledge.
