RPS3AP22 is a processed pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional genomic sequence similar to the ribosomal protein S3a gene (RPS3A), generated through retrotransposition events. It does not encode a functional protein and is not known to have a biological function, participate in disease, or act as a therapeutic target. Like many ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPS3AP22 exists as a result of the duplication and integration of ribosomal protein gene mRNA back into the genome, but lacks regulatory features or the capacity for protein expression. There is no evidence of direct involvement in human disease, response to therapy, or usefulness as a biomarker.
