Overview

Ribosomal protein S3A pseudogene 3 (RPS3AP3) is a non-protein-coding processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 20 (chr20:37021743-37021984, hg38). Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they typically arise from retrotransposition or duplication events and accumulate disabling mutations. RPS3AP3 is related to the functional RPS3A gene that encodes 40S ribosomal protein S3a, a component of the 40S small ribosomal subunit, but RPS3AP3 itself is not expressed as a protein and is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other canonical drug target class. RPS3AP3 is a pseudogene and is not a therapeutic or biological target, nor does it possess any known biological functions or disease roles. There are no drugs, biomarkers, mechanisms of action, or safety concerns associated with RPS3AP3, as it is non-functional. Human genome contains multiple pseudogenes for ribosomal proteins, including RPS3A, and RPS3AP3 is one such processed pseudogene.
