Overview

Ribosomal protein S3a pseudogene 30 (RPS3AP30) is a pseudogene in the human genome that shares significant sequence similarity with the functional RPS3A gene, which encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes like RPS3AP30 are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but contain mutations or lack regulatory elements needed for expression, and therefore do not produce functional proteins. Consequently, RPS3AP30 has no known biological function, disease role, nor therapeutic relevance; it is not a drug target, nor is it involved in any recognized cellular pathways or used as a biomarker for clinical purposes. RPS3AP30 is one of many pseudogenes derived from ribosomal protein S3a; such pseudogenes result from retrotransposition events and serve as genomic "records" of gene evolution, but are not transcribed into protein. The parent gene, RPS3A, plays a role in protein synthesis as part of the ribosome, but RPS3AP30 is not involved in ribosome function nor in any cellular process or disease.
