Ribosomal protein S3a pseudogene 36 (RPS3AP36) is a processed pseudogene derived from the RPS3A gene, which encodes a structural protein of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in translation[1][2]. As a processed pseudogene, RPS3AP36 lacks coding potential and does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are typically non-functional genomic sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability through mutation or genomic rearrangement. Processed pseudogenes arise from retrotransposition events where an mRNA transcript is reverse-transcribed and integrated back into the genome[2]. RPS3AP36 is not associated with any known biological functions, disease mechanisms, or therapeutic drug targeting.
