Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S3a pseudogene 8 (RPS3AP8) is a non-coding processed pseudogene. It is related to the functional ribosomal protein S3a (RPS3A), a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[5][9][3]. Unlike the parent RPS3A gene, RPS3AP8 contains disrupted coding potential, typically due to mutations, stop codons, or frameshifts that prevent expression of a full functional protein[9]. Pseudogenes like RPS3AP8 are common for ribosomal protein genes and are generally considered non-functional genomic elements; they do not have established biological functions, roles in disease, or interactions with drugs[9][5]. There are no known therapeutic applications, biomarker utility, or safety concerns associated with RPS3AP8. Pseudogenes, especially from ribosomal protein families, are distributed widely throughout the genome and arise from the duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes[9]. The parent gene, RPS3A, plays a vital role in ribosome assembly and protein production, but pseudogenes like RPS3AP8 are not transcribed or translated into active ribosomal proteins and are not considered drug targets, biomarkers, or therapeutic receptors[9].
