Overview

Ribosomal protein S4X pseudogene 15 (RPS4XP15) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome derived from the parent gene RPS4X, which encodes a structural protein of the ribosomal 40S subunit[2][6]. RPS4XP15 arose from reverse transcription and reintegration of RPS4X mRNA into the genome but has accumulated mutations that render it nonfunctional, with no evidence of protein-coding capacity or biological activity[8]. Like most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPS4XP15 represents part of a large family of genomic relics dispersed throughout the genome, generated by retrotransposon-mediated events[8]. It does not play a role in protein synthesis, is not associated with any disease, and is not a therapeutic or research target. It should not be confused with the functional RPS4X gene or its protein product, which is an essential component of the translational machinery[3][5]. If you require information on the actual functional ribosomal protein S4, X-linked (RPS4X), please clarify—RPS4XP15 itself is a pseudogene and not a therapeutic or drug-targetable entity.
