Ribosomal protein S4X pseudogene 20 (RPS4XP20) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, meaning it is a non-functional copy of a related gene, in this case ribosomal protein S4X (RPS4X)[9][2]. Pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins and are generally considered to have no biological activity or role in disease. RPS4XP20 has several aliases and is present as part of a family of similar pseudogenes derived from RPS4X. Unlike its parent gene, RPS4X, which encodes a protein that is a component of the small ribosomal subunit with putative links to conditions such as Turner syndrome[5][7][1], RPS4XP20 itself does not have documented biological function, disease association, or relevance as a therapeutic target[9].
