It is formally registered under NCBI Gene ID 128580 and Ensembl ENSG00000214541[5][7], with alternate identifiers used in various genomics databases. Because it is a pseudogene, RPS4XP3 is not translated into protein, is generally considered genetically "silent," and does not serve as a therapeutic target, marker, or receptor in current pharmacological or clinical contexts. The name similarity to canonical ribosomal proteins can cause confusion; however, only functional protein-coding genes are considered legitimate molecular targets[7][8].
