Ribosomal protein S4X pseudogene 6 (RPS4XP6) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the functional ribosomal protein S4, X-linked gene (RPS4X)[3][13][15]. Pseudogenes are typically non-functional DNA sequences that bear similarity to known genes but do not produce a functional product. RPS4XP6 is not expressed as a protein, has no known biological or disease relevance, and is not considered a therapeutic target. There are many ribosomal protein S4X pseudogenes annotated in the human genome, all classified as processed pseudogenes and differentiated by numbering (e.g., RPS4XP1, RPS4XP16, etc.)[7]. Functional ribosomal protein S4 genes (such as RPS4X) play a role in ribosome biogenesis and protein synthesis, but the pseudogene RPS4XP6 itself does not[3][6][11][13][15].
