Ribosomal protein S4X pseudogene 6 (RPS4XP6) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the functional ribosomal protein S4, X-linked gene (RPS4X)[3][13][15]. Pseudogenes are typically non-functional DNA sequences that bear similarity to known genes but do not produce a functional product. RPS4XP6 is not expressed as a protein, has no known biological or disease relevance, and is not considered a therapeutic target. There are many ribosomal protein S4X pseudogenes annotated in the human genome, all classified as processed pseudogenes and differentiated by numbering (e.g., RPS4XP1, RPS4XP16, etc.)[7]. Functional ribosomal protein S4 genes (such as RPS4X) play a role in ribosome biogenesis and protein synthesis, but the pseudogene RPS4XP6 itself does not[3][6][11][13][15]. RPS4XP6 is listed in genome annotation databases such as HGNC, typically without functional protein evidence[15]. The term “pseudogene” strictly indicates a sequence that is not expected to encode a functional protein or to be a therapeutic target[3][11][15]. All related entries and aliases refer to non-functional copies of the parent ribosomal protein S4 gene[7][13][15].
