Ribosomal protein S6 kinase B1 (p70S6K1) is a serine/threonine kinase regulated downstream of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)-mTOR pathway that phosphorylates ribosomal protein S6, affecting selective translation of 5'TOP mRNAs. It plays a central role in cell growth, proliferation, and metabolism, and is implicated in the development of cancer, diabetes, and other proliferative diseases. Due to its pivotal function in protein synthesis and frequent dysregulation in human disease, p70S6K1 is considered an important therapeutic target and biomarker for responses to mTOR inhibitors in oncology and immunosuppressive therapy.
