Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S6 kinase beta-1 (p70S6K), encoded by the RPS6KB1 gene, is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates cell growth, proliferation, survival, and protein synthesis. It is a key downstream effector of the PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway, primarily acting through mTORC1. p70S6K phosphorylates ribosomal protein S6, promoting increased translation and global protein synthesis. It also phosphorylates other substrates like EIF4B and EEF2K, influencing translational control and cell survival. Aberrant expression or activation of p70S6K is implicated in cancer development and other diseases.
