Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S6 kinase C1 (RPS6KC1) is a serine/threonine kinase and member of the S6 kinase protein family. It is implicated in intracellular signaling, notably by interacting with sphingosine kinase and phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate, linking it to sphingosine 1-phosphate-mediated signaling, a pathway involved in cell migration, survival, and proliferation. Additionally, RPS6KC1 may transport peroxiredoxin-3 to mitochondria, influencing mitochondrial function and oxidative stress responses. This kinase, like other S6K family members, participates in cellular growth and metabolic regulation and has emerging roles in cancer biology, both as an effector in signaling pathways and possibly through fusion proteins affecting gene regulation. While considerable research has focused on S6K1 and S6K2, RPS6KC1 is less characterized but is recognized as a protein kinase with potential relevance in disease contexts such as cancer, metabolic disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Inhibition of the kinase activity, particularly via targeting mTOR pathway components or serine/threonine phosphorylation events
