Overview

Ribosomal protein S6 kinase-like 1 (RPS6KL1) is a protein-coding gene encoding a serine/threonine kinase, part of the AGC family, and is structurally related to S6K1 and S6K2. RPS6KL1 is predicted to participate in protein phosphorylation and chromatin remodeling, and is encoded on human chromosome 14. Although direct functional studies on RPS6KL1 are limited, by analogy with the closely related S6K1 and S6K2, it is likely involved in cell size control, transcription, translation, protein and lipid synthesis, and metabolic regulation. Dysregulation of S6K family members can contribute to cancer, metabolic diseases, and other pathologies, making them notable therapeutic targets. RPS6KL1 is mentioned in the context of certain rare diseases, and could potentially be involved in signaling pathways such as PI3K-AKT-mTOR, interacting with modulators of cell growth and metabolism.
