Ribosomal protein S6 pseudogene 12 (RPS6P12) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein S6 gene located in the human genome[1][4][6]. Pseudogenes such as RPS6P12 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional: they *do not encode a functional protein* due to mutations, truncations, or loss of regulatory elements[1][2]. While most pseudogenes were historically considered "junk DNA", recent research shows that some can play *regulatory roles* at the RNA level, including acting as microRNA decoys or being transcribed into regulatory RNAs, which may modulate the expression of their cognate functional genes[2]. However, for RPS6P12 specifically, there is no evidence of protein-coding function, drug interactions, or established use as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease gene[1][4][6].
