It is classified as a pseudogene because it does not encode a functional protein and is not known to produce a functional ribosomal protein S6 in humans[3][12][10]. The original protein, ribosomal protein S6, is a structural component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis, but RPS6P14 itself does not provide these functions, nor any other known biological or disease-associated role. There is no evidence that RPS6P14 serves as a therapeutic target, is implicated in disease, or interacts with drugs[3][12][14][9].
