RPS7P1 is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional ribosomal protein S7 (RPS7) gene. Pseudogenes such as RPS7P1 arise from genomic duplications or retrotranspositions but do not encode functional proteins. Unlike its parent gene RPS7, which codes for a component of the 40S small ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPS7P1 does not participate in ribosome assembly or any known biological pathway and has no established disease associations or role as a therapeutic target. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or druggable target; it is simply a non-coding, non-functional genomic sequence. Databases such as GeneCards and NCBI clearly classify RPS7P1 as a pseudogene, separate from the active RPS7 gene.
