Overview

Ribosomal protein S7 pseudogene 12 (RPS7P12) is a pseudogene, a non-functional segment of DNA that is related by sequence similarity to the functional ribosomal protein S7 gene (RPS7). Pseudogenes such as RPS7P12 do not produce functional proteins and are considered "genomic fossils"—they exist due to gene duplication or retrotransposition events but have lost their protein-coding ability through mutations. RPS7P12 is not expressed as a protein and does not have established roles as a drug target, biomarker, or in disease, unlike the functional RPS7 gene, which encodes a protein component of the 40S ribosomal subunit[3][5][6].
