Ribosomal protein S7 pseudogene 5 (RPS7P5) is a non-coding gene classified as a processed pseudogene. It closely resembles the parental RPS7 gene, which encodes a protein component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, but RPS7P5 does not produce a functional protein[2][7]. Pseudogenes such as RPS7P5 are generally transcriptionally inactive, though there is emerging evidence that some pseudogenes may regulate the expression of their parent genes at the RNA level (for example, by acting as decoys for microRNAs or through other RNA interference mechanisms)[8]. While the protein-coding RPS7 gene is essential for ribosome assembly and protein synthesis, RPS7P5 itself has no known direct functional role and is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme[2][7].
