Overview

Ribosomal protein S7 pseudogene 8 (RPS7P8) is a processed pseudogene with sequence similarity to the RPS7 gene, which encodes a protein component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes like RPS7P8 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events but typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to disruptive mutations or lack of regulatory elements. There is no evidence that RPS7P8 is transcriptionally active, involved in human disease, or a therapeutic target. Its parent protein, ribosomal protein S7, plays a crucial role in ribosome assembly and protein synthesis, but RPS7P8 itself is generally considered functionally inactive[1][3][8].

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins; in rare cases, pseudogene RNA may have minor regulatory roles, but RPS7P8 is not known for this)
