Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S8 pseudogene 9 (RPS8P9) is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the functional ribosomal protein S8 gene. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA that arise from duplication or retrotransposition events of functional genes, but typically do not encode active proteins or exhibit biological activity. RPS8P9 is not known to be transcribed or translated into a functional protein, and it does not have identifiable physiological roles, disease associations, or interactions with therapeutic drugs. It exists in the human genome as part of the natural background of processed pseudogenes, which can sometimes have regulatory functions, but there is no evidence that RPS8P9 is functionally relevant[7][8][9]. Essentially, RPS8P9 is not a therapeutic target and is categorized primarily as a pseudogene, not as a functional receptor, enzyme, or any molecule class typically associated with drug targeting. If the intent was to refer to the functional ribosomal protein S8 (RPS8), that would be a different gene (ENSG00000142937)[1][4]; however, "RPS8P9" and "ribosomal protein S8 pseudogene" are not applicable targets for therapeutics or biomarker development.
