Ribosomal protein S9 pseudogene 1 (RPS9P1) is a non-coding pseudogene originating from the parent ribosomal protein S9 (RPS9) gene. Unlike the functional protein-coding gene RPS9, RPS9P1 does not produce a protein and does not participate in cellular processes such as ribosome assembly or protein translation. Pseudogenes like RPS9P1 are typically regarded as genomic relics, though in rare cases pseudogenes can regulate gene expression, but such a function has not been established for RPS9P1. All known associations with protein synthesis, disease, drug interactions, or therapeutic targeting relate to the functional ribosomal protein S9, not its pseudogenes.
