Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 10 (RPSAP10) is a processed pseudogene of the *RPSA* gene, part of a multicopy family including one functional *RPSA* gene and multiple pseudogenes in mammalian genomes. Unlike the functional *RPSA* gene that encodes a ribosomal protein and cell surface laminin receptor involved in various physiological and pathological processes, RPSAP10 does not produce a functional protein due to mutations like the lack of a start codon or frameshifts. Experimental analysis in sheep and comparative studies indicate that RPSAP10 is not expressed in tested tissues and has no demonstrated biological function. It is not considered a drug target or biomarker, nor is it involved in human disease. The reason for its characterization is primarily to distinguish true *RPSA* activity from pseudogenic interference in molecular or genetic assays.
