Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 12 (RPSAP12)

Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 12 (RPSAP12) is a processed pseudogene belonging to the ribosomal protein SA (RPSA)/laminin receptor gene family. Unlike the functional RPSA, which encodes a cell-surface laminin receptor implicated in tumor metastasis, prion pathology, and pathogen entry, RPSAP12 does not encode a functional protein and has no known biological or pathological role. Its presence in the genome is primarily relevant for genetic annotation and avoiding misattribution of pseudogene sequences when analyzing RPSA mutations.

02

Mechanism of action

None.

03

Biological functions

None directly attributable to RPSAP12.Pseudogenes generally do not encode proteins or have biological function. Rarely, pseudogenes may regulate the parent gene at the transcript level, but there is no evidence for RPSAP12’s biological role.
04

Disease associations

None directly, except as a possible marker for genomic studies or for distinguishing functional gene mutations from pseudogene sequences.
05

Safety considerations

None (as a pseudogene).
06

Biomarkers

None currently recognized for clinical or diagnostic use. If used, it would be as a genetic marker in distinguishing RPSA mutations from pseudogene sequences in genomic studies.
