Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 14 (RPSAP14)

Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 14 (*RPSAP14*) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional *RPSA* gene, which encodes the ribosomal protein SA/laminin receptor. Pseudogenes like *RPSAP14* arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not encode active proteins. While some ribosomal protein pseudogenes are transcribed in certain tissues and can potentially have regulatory roles as non-coding RNAs, there is no evidence that *RPSAP14* has any such function. Studies on *RPSA* and its family of pseudogenes show that most, including *RPSAP14*, lack an intact open reading frame and contain mutations that prevent translation into a full-length functional protein. Therefore, *RPSAP14* is not a functional gene, receptor, or drug target, nor is it linked to any known therapeutic or diagnostic application.

02

Mechanism of action

None (no drugs known to target *RPSAP14*)

03

Biological functions

None confirmed; pseudogenes generally lack protein-coding function, though rare cases may exert regulatory roles as non-coding RNA, but this is not established for *RPSAP14*
04

Disease associations

None known; *RPSAP14* itself is not established to play a role in disease. The functional *RPSA* gene, not this pseudogene, is associated with cancer, prion diseases, and other pathologies
