Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 15 (RPSAP15) is one of several processed pseudogenes of the RPSA gene, which encodes the ribosomal protein SA, also known as the 67-kDa laminin receptor or 37/67 kDa laminin receptor. RPSAP15 itself does not encode a functional protein and lacks functional domains present in the canonical RPSA gene. Members of the RPSA pseudogene family are usually not subject to evolutionary pressure and typically accumulate mutations that render them nonfunctional; their biological roles, if any, are not established[5][1][4][6]. RPSAP15 is annotated as a processed pseudogene, based on sequence analysis and lack of coding potential[5]. It is not listed as a validated or experimental therapeutic target in any authoritative database, and there is no evidence that it encodes a protein, serves as a receptor, or plays a direct role in any biological process or disease state[1][5]. The functional gene in this family, RPSA, has diverse cellular roles, including as a component of the ribosome and as a laminin receptor involved in cancer metastasis and prion diseases[3][6][5]. However, these roles do not apply to RPSAP15 itself. Some pseudogenes in the RPSA family may be transcribed in specific tissues, but no evidence suggests RPSAP15 transcription results in a functional product or regulatory RNA[5]. There are no known drugs or mechanism-of-action data for RPSAP15, nor is it used as a biomarker or associated with known safety or therapeutic concerns.
