It is one of many pseudogenes derived from retropositional events affecting the Ribosomal protein SA (RPSA) gene, which encodes the multi-functional 40S ribosomal protein SA—also known as the 37/67 kDa laminin receptor[5][3]. Pseudogenes such as RPSAP28 are typically non-functional genomic sequences that resemble known genes but lack coding potential due to mutations, deletions, or truncations[7]. They are not considered therapeutic or molecular targets, nor do they encode receptors, enzymes, or other functional molecules relevant for drug development or biomedical targeting. For molecular targeting, disease involvement, and drug action, information should be sought for the parent gene/protein (RPSA), not RPSAP28.
