Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 34 (RPSAP34) is a member of a family of processed pseudogenes related to the RPSA gene, which encodes the multifunctional 40S ribosomal protein SA[1][3][7]. Pseudogenes like RPSAP34 have high sequence similarity to the functional gene but generally lack the capacity to produce functional protein. While some RPSA pseudogenes are transcribed at the RNA level, there is no evidence that RPSAP34 produces a protein or possesses biological activity. The parent RPSA gene/protein itself is significant—it acts as a ribosomal component, cell surface laminin receptor, and is involved in tumorigenesis, infection, and other pathogenic processes—but these roles do not extend to the pseudogenes such as RPSAP34[1][3][7]. These pseudogenes are important primarily as potential confounders in molecular biology studies targeting the functional RPSA gene and are not considered receptors, enzymes, or therapeutic targets. There is no evidence RPSAP34 participates in disease, drug interactions, or cellular function[5][7]. RPSAP34 is not a functional receptor, enzyme, or drug target; it is a pseudogene of the ribosomal protein SA gene.
