Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 37 (RPSAP37) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome and does not encode a functional protein[5][8]. It is one of several non-functional copies related to the RPSA gene, which encodes ribosomal protein SA, also known as the 37 kDa laminin receptor precursor/67 kDa laminin receptor (LRP/LR)[10]. Pseudogenes like RPSAP37 generally arise via retrotranspositional events and lack the ability to contribute directly to canonical ribosome function or serve as a drug target[10][8]. There is no evidence that RPSAP37 plays a role as a therapeutic target, is involved in disease processes, or interacts with drugs[5][8][10]. Its nomenclature can be a source of confusion because the name is similar to RPSA, a legitimate protein and receptor, but RPSAP37 itself is not an active biological target.
