Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 38 (RPSAP38) is classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it arises from the retrotransposition of mRNA from the functional ribosomal protein SA gene (RPSA)[7]. Pseudogenes like RPSAP38 do not encode for active or functional proteins and are generally not transcribed or translated. The canonical ribosomal protein SA (RPSA) is a multifunctional protein involved in ribosome assembly and has a receptor function for laminin, relevant in cancer and prion diseases[3][5]. However, pseudogene variants such as RPSAP38 lack these functions and do not serve as receptors, drug targets, or biomarkers. No evidence supports any direct biological or therapeutic relevance for RPSAP38.
