Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 4 (RPSAP4) is a member of a multicopy gene family arising from retrotranspositional events involving the RPSA gene, which encodes the multifunctional protein ribosomal protein SA (also known as the laminin receptor)[1][2][3]. RPSAP4 does not code for a functional protein, but in some organisms, certain RPSA pseudogenes may be transcribed at low levels and might theoretically act as regulatory non-coding RNAs, though there is no current evidence that RPSAP4 itself has such a function[3]. RPSAP4 is typically classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it usually lacks introns and encodes a nonfunctional sequence, sometimes containing disabling mutations[3]. No disease associations, drug interactions, or established molecular functions are currently assigned to this pseudogene. Its primary relevance lies in the need to avoid confounding effects in genetic or expression analyses of the functional RPSA gene family due to its sequence similarity[1][3].
