Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 49 (RPSAP49) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein SA (RPSA) gene. Pseudogenes in the RPSA family, including RPSAP49, are non-coding DNA segments that arose through retrotransposition and sequence divergence and do not encode a functional protein. While the functional parent gene (RPSA) is involved in ribosomal assembly, laminin binding, cancer metastasis, and prion infection pathways[1][3][5], the pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional remnants. In some cases, pseudogenes may generate non-coding RNAs with regulatory potential, but as of now, RPSAP49 is not established as a biomarker, therapeutic target, or drug-interacting gene[5].
