Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 57 (RPSAP57) is a member of the RPSA pseudogene family, present in the human genome as a consequence of gene duplication events. As a pseudogene, RPSAP57 contains sequence similarities to the functional RPSA gene but does not encode an active protein product. Pseudogenes such as RPSAP57 are generally regarded as non-coding and non-functional, though some can occasionally be transcribed into regulatory non-coding RNAs. There is currently no evidence that RPSAP57 performs any biological or pathological function or is involved as a therapeutic target. The confusion may arise from conflating RPSAP57 with the actual ribosomal protein SA (RPSA), which acts as a ribosomal component and a laminin receptor in various biological contexts, including cancer and infectious disease pathogenesis[1][5][7].
