Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 6 (RPSAP6)

Other (Pseudogene; not a protein-coding gene or classical molecular target)
01

Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 6 (RPSAP6) is a member of the RPSA gene family, which comprises one functional gene (RPSA) and numerous processed pseudogenes, including RPSAP6. Pseudogenes in this family are highly homologous to RPSA but contain disabling mutations such as frameshifts, premature stop codons, or lack of translation initiation sites, and therefore do not encode functional proteins. The functional RPSA protein is a multifunctional protein with ribosomal and cell-surface receptor roles, notably as a laminin receptor implicated in cancer, prion diseases, and viral infection, but no such functions are documented or expected for RPSAP6. There is no evidence that RPSAP6 is expressed as a protein or fulfills any known regulatory RNA function; it is classified simply as a genomic pseudogene[2][4][3].

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; RPSAP6 does not encode a functional molecule, so no drugs or mechanism of action are described.

03

Biological functions

None established; as a pseudogene, RPSAP6 is not known to encode a functional protein.
04

Disease associations

None directly assigned. Some RPSA-related pseudogenes have been assessed for regulatory roles in cancer and prion diseases, but RPSAP6 itself lacks direct functional/disease linkages.
