Overview

Ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 74 (RPSAP74) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein SA gene (RPSA), which means it is a nonfunctional genomic sequence derived from the retrotransposition or duplication of the parent gene. While the RPSA gene produces a protein with multiple roles—including association with the ribosome and functioning as a laminin receptor—the RPSAP74 pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and has no known direct biological or pathological role. Pseudogenes like RPSAP74 are a common genomic feature, and while some may produce regulatory RNA in certain cases, there is no evidence so far that RPSAP74 has any such function[2][3][6]. RPSAP74 is a *pseudogene* (non-functional gene fragment) and is not considered a molecular or therapeutic target. If a therapeutic focus is required, information should instead be gathered for the functional RPSA gene/protein[1][7].

02

Mechanism of action

None (not a functional gene or protein)

03

Biological functions

None; does not encode a functional product
04

Disease associations

None specific to the pseudogene; the functional RPSA gene is involved in cancer and prion diseases, but no disease association for RPSAP74
