RPSAP9 (ribosomal protein SA pseudogene 9) is a processed pseudogene derived from the RPSA (ribosomal protein SA) gene. Pseudogenes such as RPSAP9 do not encode functional proteins; instead, they are remnants of historical gene duplications or retrotranspositions. The RPSA gene encodes a multifunctional protein involved in ribosomal activity and also acts as a laminin receptor implicated in several pathologies including cancer and prion diseases. RPSAP9, however, is non-functional and does not contribute to these biological roles or therapeutic targeting[1][5].
