Ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK) refers to a family of serine/threonine protein kinases that play key roles in signal transduction, particularly in the regulation of cell growth, proliferation, metabolism, and survival. RSKs are activated by upstream signaling pathways such as the MAPK/ERK pathway and mTORC1 pathway. They phosphorylate ribosomal protein S6, thereby promoting translation initiation. RSKs regulate fundamental cellular processes including cell growth, proliferation, protein synthesis, and glucose homeostasis and their dysregulation is implicated in diseases like cancer and metabolic disorders.
